Have under-cabinet “puck” lights with a “thru-cord” switch. Don’t have the instructions for the wiring of the switch. I believe the wire, which has a ribbed and smooth side, has to be split for the switch. Help! Thanks

The ribbed side is usually the neutral and the smooth is the hot. Many puck lights actually have a transformer that plugs in and your wires from the lights all go to the transformer.
if your switch is “in-line” … spilt the wire in the area you want the switch…. cut 1/2 inch out of the ribbed side… lay the wire in the switch and press the other side on….prongs inside the switch will stick into the smooth side of the wire (this is how the power gets to the switch)… then tighten screw.
Hope this helps

K. This is what you wanna do…. The puc lights are low voltage. So the first thing you want is a LOW VOLTAGE dimmer. Run your 14/2 wire leg from your power source to the switch box. Then run a 14/2 to the low voltage transformer, you will see where you run it to. Also you cut off the ground, you just need the Hot (black) and white (neutral). From there you run your low voltage grey wire to your puc lights.
To install your dimmer…. strip both 14/2 wires….. Tie the Whites together using a wire nut. Tie the grounds together using a wire nut and grounding the switch. With the two black legs it dosnt matter which goes were, just make sure both blacks are on the switch. Very important you get a LOW VOLTAGE DIMMER. I use Aridani 600AYLV but you need a low voltage dimmer, not line voltage, you will burn out your dimmer!
good luck
