I would like to replace my kitchen under cabinet 20 Watt halogen puck lights with something that is more energy efficient, uses less electricity, runs cooler and produces brighter, more even lighting. Any ideas?

Put up a few lengths of LED rope lights. They don’t pull hardly any wattage and will give a really even, soft glow. You could just cover the entire bottom surface of your cabinets and still not equal the entire wattage draw of puck lights.
LED rope lights can be expected to last about 50K hours, lots longer if you have them on a dimmer and run them at partial output most of the time.
