Product Description
D-Link unveils its new AirPremier DWL-3200AP 802.11g Managed Access Point, designed specifically for business-class environments such as large or enterprise corporations, to provide secure and manageable wireless LAN options for network administrators. The DWL-3200AP Managed Access Point allows network administrators to deploy a highly manageable and extremely robust wireless network. This access point has two high-gain antennas for optimal wireless coverage. Enclosed in a plenum metal chassis, the DWL-3200AP adheres to strict fire codes and ensures complete safety. For advanced installations, this new high-speed Access Point has an integrated 802.3af Power over Ethernet (PoE) support to allow installation of this device in areas where power outlets are not readily available. The DWL-3200AP delivers extremely reliable wireless performance with standard 802.11g wireless throughput rates of up to 54Mbps* and has the added capability of reaching maximum wireless signal rates of up to 108Mbps** powered by D-Link 108G technology. At the same time, the DWL-3200AP remains fully compatible with the IEEE 802.11b and 802.11g standards. To maximize total return on investment, the DWL-3200AP Managed Access Point can be configured in any one of three modes: Access Point, Point-to-Point (PtP) bridge with another DWL-3200AP, or Point-to-Multipoint (PtMP) bridge. For advanced network management, administrators can use D-Link's AP Manager or D-View SNMP management module to configure and manage multiple access points from a single location. With integrated PoE support, extensive manageability, versatile operation modes, and solid security enhancements, the new D-Link AirPremier DWL-3200AP Wireless Access Point provides SMB environments with a business-class solution for deploying a wireless network in the workplace. Our resort needed a stronger product for our wireless. The DWL3200AP was recommended. We updated our wireless to the DWL3200AP and the response was well worth the purchase.
Solid Access Point, WPA-Enterprise Setup is Clean. December 21, 2007 Benjamin Michael Chan (Shakopee, MN United States) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Unit is solid and sturdy and has a bit of a utilitarian look to it. The software that comes with it lets you manage multiples of these devices at a time at a layer 2 level, meaning even if you don't know what it's IP address it, it'll find it and you can set it.
I had never setup WPA enterprise before, so it took a little bit of googling and trial and error, but I did get this going.
Device seems "faster" than the Linksys WAP54G we have been using.
I will be getting additional units to replace all the SOHO Linksys & Dell APs we've got in our organization all currently running WEP...
Outstanding product, and the price...wow!! October 9, 2008 Jose Ramirez (Heredia, Costa Rica) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have had this access point for a year now. I have only had to restart it once and I think it was because of instability in the LAN in general. It works 100% of the time. I configured it via its web-based interface and never had to touch it again. In the reliability department it is just 110% excellent.
Feature-wise is also 5 stars. I won't mention everything because you can see detailed information in the DLink website, but you can secure it using various protocols, you can exclude specific MAC addresses, and the AP logs everything. I have not used it, but the AP can log directly to a server (SQL server, I think). It doesn't say anywhere, and I had to ask DLink support about this: It supports 64 simultaneous clients and its range is VERY good. I use it indoors in a 2-story house. The device is in the second floor, near the center of the house (which is about 10 meters wide and about 18 meters deep) and it covers indoors entirely, both floors! Conceded, on the first floor there are spots where I get a poor signal, but even with poor signals, I am never disconnected and I still get 11 MBps, which is way more than enough for Internet browsing (I have cable, 2 MBps, that translates to 230 kb/s approx.).
And let's have a look at the price: AMAZINGLY CHEAP! If you cannot cover your house with one, then get 2! If I ever have problems in an area, I'm sure I'll buy a second one without a second thought. This thing is rock-solid, the mounting is discrete, the antennas can be positioned, you can configure which antenna to use... I'll stop now because it is never-ending. :-) Buy with confidence!
Great product December 11, 2007 Jestep (Austin) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Installed to replace some older Linksys wireless equipment. Works very well as an access point in a medium to large network. Allows DHCP pass-through without any problem. We're easily getting 100ft range at 80 - 100% through 4 - 5 walls in all directions. Coverage still available about 20% at 200 ft. This access point has very solid, reliable range, and supports a wide range of access protocols and security. POE is great if you currently have a POE enabled network, but this router is well worth it even if you don't.
It doesn't have any sort of firewall or filtering built-in so the home user should definitely use a separate hardware firewall upstream of this. I don't think this was designed with the home user in mind, but I would gladly use this in a the large house.
Great Value August 25, 2008 Michael Blyth (Jos, Nigeria) Reliable and stable with good user interface. With the current low prices around $115, this is a great deal. I've used lots of low- and mid-price access points and bridges (Linksys, D-Link, Senao/Engenius, Deliberant, ...) and I would pick this as the best still in 2008, for overall value.
