Question about installing floating laminate flooring?

I am looking to put in floating laminate flooring in the Kitchen. The vinyl sheet flooring was installed first then the cabinets were put in. Do I need to remove the base cabinets first then put in the flooring and put the cabinets on top? Can I just remove the vinyl floor that is not under the cabinets and install the laminate?

    Question about laminate flooring?

When installing laminate flooring in a new kitchen, does the flooring (Pergo) go under the cabinets, or just up to the cabinets? I know the flooring is supposed to go under the appliances (fridge, oven, etc) but we are unsure about the cabinet issue, is it personal preference, or is there some reason that it should be one way, or the other????

How do I face nail my first and last flooring planks under the kitchen cabinet toe-kicks?

I will be blind nailing 1/2″ thick prefinished engineered Teak flooring with a hand scraped or “distressed” finish. But I’ve read that I will need to face nail my first and last rows of planks with finish nails. How do I do this with the overhang of the toe kicks on my kitchen cabinets? Am I just nailing at an angle, counter sinking them, and then filling with putty or is there a trick to this I am missing? The planks will be running the length of the kitchen, same as the counters. And I have counters on both sides of the room. I don’t have the flooring yet but it’ll be ordered this weekend and I just want to have ideas ahead of time. Also, I am thinking of buying an 18ga brad nailer (handles up to 2″ brads) for trim work. Can this be used for face nailing the flooring planks or do I need 16 or larger gauge? Any other tips are appreciated.

      Thanks in advance.

What can I put under filing cabinets to keep from scuffing or staining newly tiled flooring?

The filing cabinets are old and rusty on the bottom but otherwise in good condition but we need to find a mat or something to go underneath and I didn’t know if maybe there was something specific we could use or if we will have to be creative. Any ideas would be great!

Kitchen renos, does the flooring need to go under the cabinets?

I’ve seen this on a show once where they put the flooring (laminate) flush up against the cabinets, rather than doing all floors first THEN putting in cabinets.

I think it was just for their demo purposes, but i’m wondering if that’s okay to do? or will it look bad?

How to saw thru hardwood flooring that is under my kitchen cabinets ?

        Posted: March 30th, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: Under Cabinet Tips | Tags: , , , , , | 2 Comments »

My kitchen island was installed on top of hardwood floor that was already in kitchen. Now I need to remove hardwood so I can install slate. What is the best way to saw along the base of the island cabinets ? The cut must be tight to the base of the cabinet so that rules out a circular saw. Also I have to deal with the added complication that there is an overhanging kick space at the bottom of cabinet so only about 5″ of head room.

When installing laminate flooring in a kitchen, does the flooring go under the cabinets or butt up to them.?

Trying to find out if I should install the laminate flooring first then the cabints or cabinets, then butt the laminate flooring to the cabinets. I know I can’t screw down into the floor, if installing the floor first, under the cabinets.
