I bought a 5-light Xenon puck kit (Utilitech) for under cabinet install. The kit comes with a transformer and dimmer. A cable with 5 plugs that attach to each puck comes from the transformer. For the space we’re putting these, 4 lights work out perfect, 5 is too much. I can disconnect individual lights but I loose some dimming. Does anyone know if it’s safe to run the kit this way? The transformer output is 60watt, each light is 10watt.

I asked about shimming previously, we are having granite countertops installed today and one side of cabinet was 1/4″ low – old house, so probably the floors, not the cabinet itself.

We could not get the cabinet up from the floor to get a shim under it even after removing bottom trim – can’t find where they screwed it to the wall or anything.

Knowing how rigged things are in the house, they very well may have crazy glued the darn thing to the wall – it ain’t moving!

So I found a 1/4″ piece of wood and screwed it to the top of the base on the low side – it fit right over the side rim – do you think this will fly with the countertop installers?

Why wouldn’t it work if not? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Once you have an idea as to size and purpose, then go to your favorite home improvement store and see if they can give you more ideas. You may be able to do part of the work yourself but in all likely hood you’re going to need an electrician at least. The last thing you want is a storage and work area that large without convenient access to power.

Also consider if the island can be viewed from other rooms. Often the open design of homes allows some look at the kitchen. You might consider adding a lip along the edge that faces the other room to hide the food prep mess or aftermath.

Once you have it built you’re going to love it. Not only will it look great but it will make work in the kitchen so much easier. If you have the space you really should consider adding a kitchen island.
